The March

Marching with Southampton Pride 2024

11am from Queens Park

Our free community Pride March is the highlight of the event, making its
way through the City Centre, through the city’s historic Bargate before
heading back to the event site.

Since 2021, our March has started further into the city at the stunning
Queens Park. Our March participants including both corporate and public
sections meet in the park before the event begins at approximately
9:45am before setting off along the High Street towards the Bargate at
approx 11:00am.

A key central focus of our Pride Photography each year, the march pauses
at the Bargate for photos with our official crew and the public watching
the march progress before setting off again for the final stretch
towards the Southampton Pride event at Guildhall Square.

Due to traffic regulations, roads are temporarily closed for us to be
able to safely make our way through the city centre, but these need to
be reopened as quickly as possible to minimise disruption, especially if
there is a football match on at St Mary's. For this reason, the March
splits at Civic Centre Road with half heading towards our Above Bar
Street Main Entrance and the other heading towards Civic Centre Road
entrance.

For security reasons, all March participants with bags must be searched
upon entry to the site - there are no exceptions to this. Water bottles
must be sealed or empty to be allowed through security.

Public Marchers

We are looking for the following volunteers to help on the march:

Flag bearers: We have 3 giant flags as part of the march we need
volunteers to help carry these on the march. These are huge targets for
photographs and social media on the day.

Placard holders: This is a very important role within the march. Over 70
countries in the world have anti LGBT+ laws. We would like to have each
country on a placard with the punishment for being LGBT+ on. This will
be a silent and solemn part of the march to highlight the injustices in
the world.

Please note: As a member of the public, you do not need to register to
march in the parade. Join us around 10:00 am in Queens Park and a
volunteer will show you where to join the public section of the march.
Don't forget your flags, placards, signs and chants!

Corporate / Business Marchers

This a great opportunity to promote your business, show your support for
the LGBT+ community and to have fun. We would recommend for you to make
the most of this opportunity, promote your participation beforehand, use
any promotional material you have and give out vouchers, leaflets etc to
the crowds on the day.

Charities £100.00 (please also provide charity number)
LGBT charities/support groups etc. Free £0.00

Businesses

Cost is depending on size of company and amount of employees.

£50.00 off the parade fee.

If you are a member of the public there will be a free section to march.

Please note: If there are any banners/flags or any marketing materials with company logos on from companies that have not applied and paid for, they will be
asked to remove such items and not partake in the march.
